Umbra

Umbra

アンブラ

Roberto Ferrari, Nomura’s right-hand man and the character designer behind many of FFXV’s secondary characters, revealed that several shinobi-inspired characters were originally planned for FFXV before being removed from the story, apparently similar to the Kingsglaive soldiers, but with a much more traditional Japanese aesthetic.

Ferrari himself also stated that Umbra was supposed to have a human form and be one of those shinobi.

What makes this even more interesting is that “umbra” literally means “shadow” in Latin, which could very well have been a subtle reference to Shadow from FFVI, a character originally designed by Tetsuya Nomura himself, who also has a dog.

All of this really feels like another glimpse into the darker, more mystical and mysterious identity that FFXV once had under Nomura’s direction.
